Can Obama and Clinton Look Any More Ridiculous On Iran?
Regardless of what neocons say, the Iranian nuclear program has not violated any IAEA safeguards and so the repeated descriptions of it being an “illicit program” are nothing more than calls for war by the same lairs who painted us into the corner in Iraq, another neocon propaganda success story.
Now the U.S. wants sanctions brought against Iran for Iran, Brazil, and Turkey enacting the exact policy the U.S. sought only a few months ago. If this does not expose the hypocrisy and stupidity of our leaders and their disdain for our intelligence, I don’t know what will. How can Obama and Clinton expect anyone in the international community to take them seriously? They have been exposed and disgraced while becoming an irrelevant international laughingstock.

BP Comes Up With Latest Plan To Stem "Oil Gusher" In US Gulf
Following the failure of its "top-kill" plan to cap the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, British Petroleum (BP) is now planning to try out another high-risk attempt to deal with the worst environmental disaster in American history.
The latest plan, which will take at least a week to be executed, involves placing a cap over the leak which will be done using robots.

Iran Navy detects US nuke sub in Persian Gulf waters
Iranian naval forces have detected a US nuclear submarine in the Persian Gulf waters, amid growing concerns over the safety of one of the most important energy routes in the world.
An Iranian patrol on Thursday spotted the nuclear-armed and -powered submarine in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which allows the passage of 90 percent of the oil produced by Persian Gulf states to Asia, the US and Western Europe.

China, America, and a New World Order
The global financial crisis has telescoped shifts in the world order, especially for a rising China.
For many years, the major strategic question regarding China has been whether, as it grows in economic, political, and military might, it will embrace the post–World War II order: the treaties, multilateral institutions, and norms developed largely with United States leadership. The answer is no. China will not adapt to the existing global
That is the conclusion I draw from a recent trip to Beijing and meetings with people in the highest levels of the Chinese Communist Party and government. For them, this is not an irrational approach to transacting affairs on the world stage. For us, this presents numerous challenges that might imperil our own interests.

Gulf spill reminds America: The era of easy oil' is over
Why are we going nearly to the ends of the earth and the bottom of the seas for oil?
The answer, say many experts, is that we're consuming as much oil as we ever have but the era of "easy oil" is in our rearview mirror and receding fast. "No one goes and tries to drill in a mile of water if they can think of somewhere easier to do it," said Chris Skrebowski, a former strategist for British Petroleum who now runs a London consultan"The easy stuff that you have access to ... is already spoken for. All that's left is the frontiers, which are necessarily more technically challenging.

White flight? Suburbs lose young whites to cities
Suburbs still tilt white. But, for the first time, a majority of all racial and ethnic groups in large metro areas live outside the city. Suburban Asians and Hispanics already had topped 50 percent in 2000, and blacks joined them by 2008, rising from 43 percent in those eight years.

US Oil Spill: Balls Of Tar On Alabama Beach
Balls of tar have washed up on a popular Alabama beach as efforts to contain the BP oil spill suffered a major setback.
The oil reached a white sand beach on Dauphin Island - a resort popular with swimmers and sunbathers.
It is believed to be the first evidence of spilled oil in the populated Alabama area.
Reports of the balls of tar came as BP confirmed that an attempt to contain oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico with a huge metal dome had floundered.

Dmitry Orlov on why the U.S. is headed toward Soviet-style collapse
"Really, there's no one at the helm now," Dmitry Orlov says nonchalantly. We are talking about the economic crisis and the way that the destructive system of our economy operates without anyone really leading it. It's a perfect statement from a man who has traded in his house and car to live on a sailboat full-time, with an excellent argument for the safety and sustainability of the water-based nomadic existence to back up his decision.

US Military Aid to Israel – ACT NOW to Stop!
Contact your state congressmen or senators today. The U.S.Congress is considering a bill to vote for it’s annual $3 Billion assistance to Israel’s IDF.
The US 2011 budget is now in the House Appropriations Committee, and Israel is to be given another $3 Billion in Military Aid! In past years, Israel has been given this “aid” with no discussion, no conditions that must be met, no reporting requirements, and no incremental/quarterly payments as is done with every other country receiving such Aid. These practices clearly must be stopped if the US is to be able to bring Israel to end all building of settlements, open Gaza and enter into good faith negotiations for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace agreement.

Is Black Unemployment a Human Rights Issue?
African American unemployment is currently at 16.5 percent, nearly twice the national average of 9.7 percent. For African American males age 20 and over, the unemployment rate is 19 percent, nearly twice the national average. For African American women, the rate is twice that of their white counterparts, and among African American teenagers, the unemployment rate looms at 41 percent.
The visible successes of a relative few African Americans can mask the widespread structural inequality facing many of our communities. Research by Algernon Austin at the Economic Policy Institute has demonstrated the consistently high rates of under- and unemployment among African Americans as evidence of a "permanent recession." This is true, he argues, when the economy is strong. So, when the rest of the nation is experiencing a recession, what are African Americans experiencing? That's right, a depression.

To Peg or Not to Peg? When will China revalue it's currency?
When a 10-ton elephant plods through a village of grass huts, the big question on everyone’s mind is: which way is he going to turn next? With China, that fundamental question translates to guessing when Beijing will make changes to the value of the yuan. These decisions will determine the overall direction of the global economy, and will set the path that everyone must follow. Unfortunately, no Americans, even those who travel hat-in-hand to China, have a seat at the table where these decisions are being made.

The War on Freedom
How do you take away the freedom of a free people without putting tanks on every street? You do it by transforming their culture. By turning the very idea of freedom into something ugly and shameful. A foul thing to be associated with extremists and other bad folk that good citizens are advised to avoid. The goal being to convince the people that their freedom is a thing they should be happy to give up, rather than having to forcibly take it away from them.

Standing up to Israel
What kind of hypocrisy is this? Why can't the United States stand up against Israel and its decisions in preventing peace?
The writers say in the article, "Obama, Netanyahu meet; minds don't": "U.S. officials ... are not asking Netanyahu to halt construction... Instead, they have asked him to avoid announcements of new projects."
Are the projects going up secretly without anyone finding out? Will the Palestinians not know about it? Can someone please explain this absurdity?
Peace will never be achieved by pushing Palestinians to the brink of disaster.
Peggy Hinaekian, Fort Lauderdale

The next 9/11 -- Made in Israel?
Israel’s nuclear espionage against the United States didn’t end with its accession to the nuclear club in the late 1960s. As former FBI translator Sibel Edmonds revealed, its smuggling network received crucial assistance from three high-ranking officials in the George W. Bush administration. All three have close ties to Israel’s military-industrial complex.
